The Master’s University men’s basketball team has signed Sam Boone, an NCAA Division 2 transfer who will add to the squad’s frontcourt depth.
Boone, who last played at Seattle Pacific University, joins a 2019-20 Mustang recruiting class that is fast becoming one of the best under TMU fourth-year head coach Kelvin Starr.
“We’re excited to have a transfer with the experience Sam has,” Starr said. “He is a very skilled bigger body who makes us way deeper in the frontcourt.”
Boone, a 6-7 senior forward, was born in Los Angeles, prepped at Ponderosa High School in Centennial, Colorado, and played his junior year of college ball at Seattle Pacific University last year.
In his only year playing for the NCAA Division II Falcons, Boone averaged 3.2 points and 3.7 rebounds per game in just under 11 minutes of action per outing. He notched a double-double with a season-high 11 points and 11 rebounds against Concordia of Oregon on Jan. 17, 2019.
Boone joins a program that has gone 83-14 over the past three campaigns under Starr and returns NAIA All-American center Tim Soares and talented forward Brock Gardner.
The Mustangs have now won 37 straight home games, back-to-back Golden State Athletic Conference regular-season titles and three consecutive conference tournament titles, a GSAC record.
Boone said his goal is to win a national championship, something that he thinks is realistic for a club that has played in the NAIA national tournament the past three years.
“I chose TMU because it offers a great combination of academics, athletics and a community of integrity that I believe will influence me to grow as a student, player and man,” Boone said.
