Denny Truger, center, is recognized as Placerita Nature Center's Adult Volunteer of the Year.

 

[PCNCA] – The Nature Center Associates of Los Angeles County held its annual Docent and Volunteer Recognition on Saturday, September 14, at Eaton Canyon Nature Center. Volunteers from six Los Angeles County Nature Centers with docent programs are presented badges for their years of service. In addition, individuals who provide outstanding service are awarded “Volunteer of the Year” certificates.

Opening remarks at the ceremony were delivered by L.A. County 5th District Supervisor Kathryn Barger, who thanked all of the volunteers for their service and acknowledged the vital role they play in the mission of the County Natural Areas. County Parks and Recreation Director John Wicker also expressed his appreciation for the service of the Nature Center Associates.

This year a number of docents from Placerita Canyon Nature Center were recognized for their service:

5-year badges — Bill Algeyer, Claudette Newman, Mara Cohen, Dan Duncan, and RuthAnne Murthy

10-year Badges — Linette and Rick Brammer

15-year Badges — Alan and Sue Wallander, Janet Kubler

20-year Badges — Roger McClure and Nikki Dail

Placerita Canyon Nature Center’s adult Volunteer of the Year was Denny Truger, a member of the Docent Class of 2012. Denny was involved in many improvement projects at the nature center over the past year. Moreover, he was acknowledged to be wonderful person with a heart of gold, and a quick and easy smile who makes everybody have a great time in his company.

Placerita had two Youth Volunteers of the Year: Miranda Clark and Delaney Pineda. Childhood friends, they have provided many hours of service at the nature center over the past year, performing many tasks.
