VALLEJO – The University of Antelope Valley Pioneers (11-11; 9-1 Cal Pac) earned their sixth-consecutive win Saturday night, defeating the Keelhaulers of California State University – Maritime Academy (15-9; 7-3 Cal Pac), 73-63 in intercollegiate California Pacific Conference men’s basketball action inside the Cal Maritime Physical Education Complex.
With the victory, UAV extends its lead over the Keelhaulers in the Cal Pac standings to two games and are the first Cal Pac team to officially clinch a berth in the Cal Pac Championships later this month, hosted by UAV.
UAV senior forward Christian Drayton (Lufkin, TX) collected another double-double, scoring a team-high 14 points and 11 rebounds to go along with two blocks and one assist.
Junior guard Kamal Holden (Los Angeles, CA) added 13 points, five rebounds, a game-high five assists and a steal, junior forward Kane Keil (Auckland, New Zealand) finished with 12 points, five rebounds, three steals, and three assists, and senior guard Hayden Hall (Portland, OR) chipped in with 10 points and four rebounds.
UAV hit 28-of-68 field goals (.412), 6-of-25 three-pointers (.240), 11-of-22 free throws (.500), and outrebounded the Keelhaulers, 47-38. UAV committed 10 turnovers and stole the ball eight times. CSUM made 20-of-56 shots (.357), 7-of-26 three-pointers (.269) and 16-of-25 free throws (.640) and committed 13 turnovers and stole the ball from UAV six times.
Next game: Coached by Darwin Cook, the Pioneers return home to host the University of Benedictine at Mesa for a California Pacific Conference contest on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. PST inside the Pioneer Event Center in Lancaster.
