2015 has been a very exciting year for Lundgren, from celebrating a Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) award for our work at Santa Barbara Community College, to our continuing construction services on new projects for clients, new and old, throughout Southern California.
On March 25, the Lundgren team was honored to attend the annual awards gala for the Southern California chapter of the Construction Management Association of America, at the JW Marriott Los Angeles at L.A. Live. This year’s gala was particularly noteworthy for us, since Lundgren received a CMAA project achievement award for Building/Renovation in the $11-50 million range, for our modernization work at the Santa Barbara City College Humanities Building.
An award like this is a great accolade. It is recognition of the hard work we put into a project and our dedication to the client’s satisfaction. But there is something more than that. When I founded this company, I was simply focused on providing quality work. I couldn’t see into the future. I had no idea of the projects and accomplishments on our horizon. To receive this award now, and look back over how our company has grown and thrived over the years, is very rewarding and satisfying. It’s something we could only accomplish with a dedicated, hard-working team.
I am thankful for all Lundgren has accomplished through the years, glad for the numerous projects on which we continue to work, and excited to see where the future takes us. Wherever we go, we are committed to delivering world-class leadership.
School Project in Palmdale Nearing Completion
 Lundgren is pleased to report that work is progressing steadily and on schedule for the Palmdale School District’s David G. Millen Intermediate School project. Lundgren is serving as the construction manager for the $31 million project, which broke ground in fall 2013.
Currently, framing is complete, the rough mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work is done, exterior stucco work is underway, and interior insulation and drywall is being installed.
The project is on track to be completed this August, in time for the new school year. Covering nearly 100,000 square-feet, the new school located at 39221 22nd Street West in Palmdale was made possible by funding from voter-approved Measure DD. The campus is designed as a courtyard with the facilities surrounding outdoor, multi-purpose space, providing a safe and secure environment for students.
The Palmdale School District serves more than 21,000 students in kindergarten through eighth grade, with its intermediate schools serving seventh and eighth grade. |
Lundgren Breaks Ground on Glendale Unified School District’s Phase 1 ORG Projects

Lundgren officials recently joined Glendale Unified School District officials to break ground on two elementary school projects, funded by Measure S and State Overcrowding Relief Grant (ORG) funding.
At R.D. White Elementary School, Lundgren Builders is replacing dated, existing portable classroom buildings with a new, two-story, 32,700-square-foot classroom building. The $9 million project is being completed utilizing the lease-leaseback delivery method, and construction is scheduled to be complete in August 2016.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place May 26, with speakers including Alan Reising, Administrator, Facilities Planning, Development, and Support Operations for the Glendale Unified School District; the district’s Board President Gregory Krikorian; and Board Vice-President Christine Walters.
Lundgren officials also proudly attended the May 18 groundbreaking ceremony for Balboa Elementary School’s Phase 1 ORG Project, with speakers including Reising and Krikorian. The project is also funded by Measure S and State Overcrowding Relief Grant (ORG) funding. The work will, again entail replacing dated, existing portable classroom buildings with a new, $7 Million two-story classroom building and is expected to be complete by August, 2016.

Lundgren is also slated to begin a 3rd ORG funded 2 story classroom building at Verdugo Woodlands Elementary School by mid 2016.

Lundgren Sponsors “Delivering Education” Event
On May 12, Lundgren was pleased to be an event sponsor for “Delivering Education” a symposium conducted by the Southern California Development Forum at the City Club Los Angeles. Topics included how the lease-leaseback delivery method is changing the construction landscape, how education systems in the Los Angeles area are delivering projects, and whether Design-Build competitions are still viable.
The panelists included: Mark Hovatter of the Los Angeles Unified School District; Jim O’Reilly of the Los Angeles Community College District; Peter Hendrickson of the University of California, Los Angeles; and Jon Soffa of the University of Southern California.
As the construction industry continues to experience changes, especially when it comes to schools construction, we believe these types of events are very important for stimulating discussion and forward thinking.

Lundgren Cares About the Community
When we talk about how Lundgren cares about building the community, we mean more than construction. We are proud to support a variety of efforts to invest in the improvement of the communities in which we work.
On May 3, Lundgren was pleased to be a sponsor for the 27th annual Taste of the Town, held at Mann Biomedical Park in Valencia. With food and drink samplings from a number of local restaurants, this popular event helps raise support for the Child & Family Center. This year, the event drew a reported 2,000 people. The nonprofit organization helps provide mental health, behavioral, and education services for children, adults, and families in the Santa Clarita Valley.
On April 11, we sponsored the 25th annual College of the Canyons Silver Spur award gala at the Autry National Center in Los Angeles. This year’s award went to the Newhall family, who played a vital role in the development of the Santa Clarita Valley. Formed in 1883, the Newhall Land and Farming Co. (today known simply as Newhall Land) was instrumental in the growth of the community, both through the development of housing and charitable efforts.
 In May, Lundgren was a sponsor and participant in the “How the West Was Won” trap shoot to raise funds for Carousel Ranch. Held at Oak Tree Gun Club in Santa Clarita, the shoot raised support for the nonprofit organization that provides progressive equestrian therapy for children and adults with disabilities and special needs. Lundgren has supported this event since its inception, seven years ago.
It is truly rewarding for Lundgren to be able to give back to our community and all of the communities where we work, in these ways. |
