LANCASTER – The University of Antelope Valley Athletic Department is proud to announce the promotion of Steve Harrington from assistant softball coach to the position of head coach, following the departure of the program’s previous head coach.
Originally hired as an assistant coach by UAV in February, 2018, Harrington takes on the head-coaching responsibility as a veteran coach, with over 25 years of coaching experience at the high school, travel softball and collegiate level, and has helped to successfully place more than 230 student-athletes in colleges across the country.
“I would first like to thank the University of Antelope Valley for this opportunity,” stated Harrington, “and I am very excited to be the university’s head coach and to begin working with these young ladies. I continue to remain optimistic that this team is going to have a great year and I cannot wait to get started.”
Earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from California State University, Northridge in 1994, he would continue his education at CSU, Northridge, also earning his Master’s Degree in School Counseling in 2003.
After finishing his undergraduate degree, Harrington began his professional career at Chaminade College Preparatory High School in West Hills, Calif., where he served from 1994 until 2000 as a school counselor.
Harrington worked briefly as a school counselor at Santa Margarita Catholic High School from 2002 to 2003 before being hired by El Modena High School in Orange, Calif., where he would wear many hats during his tenure between 2001 and 2015, serving as a school counselor, a varsity assistant football coach, and the head varsity softball coach.
After departing El Modena, Harrington served as the head varsity softball coach at La Habra High School from 2015 to 2017, and worked as the assistant softball coach at Santa Clara University from 2017 to 2018 before taking the assistant coaching position at UAV.
Harrington boasts a 424-110 (.794) overall record in 25 high school seasons as a head coach, including 25-consecutive CIF postseason appearances, six State Finals appearances, and two State Championship Titles.
