1852 - Acton gold mine owner & California Gov. Henry Tifft Gage born in New York [story]

[KHTS] – Little more than a month away from losing their home a second time, the Parr family of Valencia is asking the community to help them pay the back property taxes they owe, after a number of medical emergencies and job losses.

valencia-family-faces-illness-asks-community-help-them-keep-theiJennifer Parr started a GoFundMe.com account earlier this month, and within five days, they raised more than $6,100, but that’s little more than half of the $11,000 they need to raise by June 30 to keep their home.

“Every time I get another donation, I just can’t believe it,” Jennifer Parr said. “…I can never thank anybody enough. There’s just no words to describe. I’m just dumfounded. It’s very humbling.”

Jennifer and her husband, Michael Parr’s oldest daughter, Nicole, 30, was diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome when she was 18 months old.

Prader-Willi Syndrome is a genetic disorder that causes chronic hunger and is the “most common known genetic cause of life-threatening obesity in children,” according to the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association website.

Due to complications with her condition, including a fractured hip, congestive heart failure, kidney failure and acute respiratory failure, Nicole has been in the hospital six times during the past three years, Jennifer Parr said.

“Our lives revolve around her,” she said. “Everything you do or don’t do, it’s about Nicole. She will always be the number one thing that you have to worry about.”

On top of that, the family lost their home of 17 years in 2012 after Michael Parr was injured on the job and put on disability.

After working with the bank for months to try and refinance their home, the bank told the family that there was nothing they could do to save it, Jennifer Parr said.

They moved into her mother-in-law’s house two doors down, and Jennifer Parr got a job in Oxnard, but had to quit when her husband was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s last June, according to their GoFundMe page.

Their three other children, Anthony, Cody and Courtney help with expenses when they can but have their own bills to pay as well, Jennifer Parr said.

To her, keeping their current house means keeping Nicole with her family and out of a care facility for as long as possible.

“There are days where it’s hard,” Jennifer Parr said, “but we wouldn’t want her anywhere else… She’s special, and she brings joy to so many people’s lives. She’s made me who I am today, given me the strength to get through a lot of stuff.”

This is a real story. I personally know this family.

  8. So glad this made news Courtney Kesha Parr I really hope everything works out I love you guys!!

  9. Why should these people pay a tax on something they already own? This is really sad.

  10. Anthony parr says:

Story is 100% true. Manny how can a woman taking care of her disabled husband and daughter go to pirate staffing? Did you not read the whole article?

  11. Trailer and cars and iPhones and tattoos and Mcdonalds ain’t cheap. How about growing some green beans and eating those. Scan a copy of the lien notice To prove it’s for real. Did the trailer sell? How about the rig that pulls it! I’d love to have a trailer and a rig and live in someone else’s house? What are you going to do when the next tax bill comes around? How about the power bill? Obama gonna pay it?

    • Chelsea Cox says:

They don’t need to prove anything to you or anyone else. If it offends you so much, don’t read it. You don’t know their situation, nor do you know them. Keep your comments to yourself, and have a great day! :)

    • Joey Sullivan I hope you never have a situation such as this happen to you, because obviously people must not care for/support you through hard times.

    • Joey Sullivan, you’re a dick.

    • It’s sickening that a person can actually say something like this. Do you know this family sir? No. Do you know what they go through? No. Do you understand how hard this family works to help out their sister/daughter? No you do not sir. I pray that you never have a situation like this. Sir instead of commenting about how fake this is and how YOU ASSUME that they haven’t tried everything when they have done just about everything they can, Why not read the story and get the facts instead of making an ass out of yourself? They are a loving caring supportive family and you sir seem to have no idea what that’s like. So I hope that you have a lovely worry free life but your negativity is not welcome here.

  12. How about growing a heart and using it? They’ve been posting ALL over selling their personal belongings to try and save the house they live in. It’s a lot easier to pay your month to month bills then coming up with $11,000.00 that is owed. Who are you to comment anything about this family without reading the whole article?! Each and every one of those kids work 1-2 jobs and take on more in a day then most adults do in their lifetimes. Sorry they’re in a hospital and can’t, “grow some green beans and eat them.” They’ve been dealt bad hand after bad hand and still remain humble & place faith in God that he has a plan. Maybe YOU could use some of that.

  13. Cass Lopez says:

Praying for the family- living is hard these days for us all. Every little bit counts and a few dollars goes a long way. We as Americans need to pay it forward sometimes, it’s good for the soul. I personally am having a garage sale soon and I will donate the proceeds to this family!

  14. Cass Lopez says:

    Deborah Davis this is it

  15. The Parr’s are good people and I am proud to call them my friends. If you can’t help then don’t end of story! No need to go off on a rant and trash people you know nothing about.
Go away Joey Sullivan no one here cares what you think!

  16. Scott Bond says:

    This is real.
    I personally know this family.

  17. These are some good people who have had to deal with a lot over the years and it got really bad over the year or two. I have known them a long time. They normally wouldn’t look for help like this but sometimes you need to resort to things you wouldn’t normally do. I hope they can pull through this.

  18. Elizabeth Chislett says:

Jennifer Parr should have been quoted as saying she was “just dumbfounded”, not “just dumfounded”.

  19. Best people I know, ever. Period point blank and no doubt about it. They deserve a home, they deserve to be just as happy and healthy as any other person. These young adults have down everything in their power to help out one another in this difficult time and it’s now it’s our turn as a community to pay forth the respect and life they deserve to live together.

  20. Do the right thing Mr. Sullivan and contribute. Redeem yourself.

  21. Scott Bond says:

Joey Sullivan, I thought about what you wrote the whole time i was the market this evening. You threw some stones that you shouldn’t have.

I hope everyone now pays it forward and donates in Mr Sullivan’s name. Courtney actually works for me and is the hardest working and most thoughtful 21 year old I know. Not once has she missed work because of this or showed up down or letting on anything was wrong. She continues to do what she needs to do daily and not giving up. Everyone has down times in life and needs help from family, friends, or even a stranger. I’m not going to say anything negative towards you but actually thank you Mr Sullivan for inspiring me to do whatever I can to help this family beat this to defeat your negativity.

  24. William Gentry says:

I hope that more people donate in Mr Sullivan’s name. Courtney actually works for me and she is one of the hardest working and most thoughtful 21year old’s I know. Not once has she missed work or asked for a free pass because of what was going on. She continues to do what she needs to do daily and doesn’t give up or in. Everyone has had down times in life and needed help from family, friends, and even strangers. I’m not going to say mean angry things to you but actually say thank you Mr Sullivan for giving me the motivation to help them beat this and conquer your negativity.

  25. Trisha Alves says:

Joey you’re a real class act. I mean there is no way in hell a family could’ve had all those things before falling on hardship. Right?! No WRONG! I have a nice car, a nice apartment, big TV, two iPhones one for me one for my hubs, etc… This year I lost my job, a month later my Husband got laid off too! We still have all of our things but believe me without the help of some family we would probably lose it all! So get a clue dude!

  26. You are in our prayers that God will provide for you “)

  27. Everybody has problems!
    Nobody ever helps me…
Sorry – lost faith in people along time ago.
