Valley Performing Arts Center is bringing the holidays to the Great Hall with a cornucopia of musical attractions this December. From Vienna to Mexico to New York City to Ireland, these worldly offerings are sure to ignite the holiday spirit.

“This seasonal line-up represents holiday traditions from all over the globe,” said Thor Steingraber, Executive Director of VPAC. “I chose these programs with the goal of presenting something for everyone. We have the most comprehensive holiday selection of any venue in Los Angeles: jazz, classical and Baroque music, choral music, and world music. VPAC’s exceptional acoustics will be on spectacular display for Vienna Boys Choir and the Messiah and our reasonable ticket prices provide a great gift opportunity.”

The festivities begin with Vienna Boys Choir Christmas in Vienna on Friday, December 2 at 8:00pm. With a history dating back to the 14th century, Vienna Boys Choir is one of the world’s most revered choral groups and has remained a symbol of artistic perfection and purity for over six centuries. Christmas in Vienna will showcase these gifted musicians with voices of unforgettable beauty in an extraordinary program featuring classical masterpieces, popular songs and, of course, holiday favorites.

Mariachi Garibaldi of Grammy Award winner Jaime Cuéllar and the Ballet Folklórico de Kareli Montoya will perform an evening of dance and songs in Fiesta Mexicana: Feliz Navidad on Saturday, December 3 at 7:00pm. Included in the program will be iconic Christmas songs such as “Campanas de Belen,” “Que Canten los Ninos,” “Amarga Navidad,” “Navidad de los Pobres,” and “Las Posadas”. The evening will also include a special appearance by the Haddon Mariachi, the beloved children’s mariachi of Haddon Elementary School in Pacoima.

New York’s premiere choral ensemble and Baroque orchestra: The Choir of Trinity Wall Street and Trinity Baroque Orchestra will perform one of the season’s most heralded pieces of music: Handel’s Messiah on Wednesday, December 7 at 8:00pm. George Frideric Handel’s Messiah and Trinity have a long history. Trinity presented one of the first performances of the work in North America in 1770 and the GRAMMY-nominated Choir of Trinity Wall Street and Trinity Baroque Orchestra are still widely regarded as the peerless interpreters of the work.

The acclaimed Irish ensemble, Danú, celebrates the holidays with An Irish Christmas Gathering: Féile na Nollag on Sunday, December 11 at 7:30pm. Christmas in Ireland is one of the most important holidays for families and friends, as many Irish people living abroad come home to gather in celebration. Music and dance gatherings, in communities both urban and rural, have often combined for generations to offer a great variety of songs, music, and stories for the holidays. Danú’s Irish Christmas Gathering offers a taste of these extraordinary events, which have been held across Ireland for hundreds of years. Celtic music lovers around the globe have been thrilled by their virtuoso players on fiddle, flutes, button accordion, percussion and the gorgeous voice of Nell Ní Chróinín along with top notch guest dancers.

There is no better showpiece for the pristine acoustics at VPAC than Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos. On Tuesday, December 13 at 8:00pm they will be performed by one of the nation’s most esteemed chamber ensembles: Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Called a “New York holiday staple” by The New York Times, Bach’s six joyous Brandenburg Concertos are highly regarded as some of the most important compositions of the Baroque era.

“Leaders of New York’s jazz revival,” according to CBS This Morning, The Hot Sardines bring Holiday Stomp to VPAC on Saturday, December 17 at 8:00pm. In the talented hands of The Hot Sardines, music first made famous decades ago comes alive through their brassy horn arrangements, rollicking piano melodies, and vocals from a chanteuse who transports listeners to a different era with the mere lilt of her voice. New York’s acclaimed ambassadors of swing will deliver a white-hot Christmas featuring “White Christmas,” “Le Noël de la Rue,” “Mele Kelikimaka,” “Please Come Home for Christmas,” and many more in their signature speakeasy sound.
