1943 - 3 Army aviators killed in crash of plane and glider in Castaic area; 3 others saved by 9-year-old girl [story]
Marylynn Winkler Butters

nsd-logoKindergarten in California is now a two-year program, starting with Transitional Kindergarten (TK) classes. Transitional Kindergarten addresses the needs of younger students using a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate. Transitional Kindergarten students have their own standards, curriculum, and report card. Students then move to a traditional Kindergarten classroom in the second year of their school experience.

At their November 13th meeting the Newhall School District’s Governing Board approved the student birth date range for entrance to Transitional Kindergarten. Students who will turn five between Sept. 2 and Dec. 2 in 2013 will be assigned to TK classes in 2013-2014 and will then be Kindergarten students in 2014-2015. There will be a TK classroom for students at each of the district’s ten schools. Parents may pick up transitional kindergarten packets at their home school site beginning February 11, 2013.

To be eligible for Kindergarten in 2013-14, students must be five on or before September 1, 2013. Kindergarten packets will also be available for pick up at the home school site beginning Feb. 11.

Check out the Newhall School District website, www.newhallschooldistrict.net, for FAQs regarding Transitional Kindergarten.
