High School students entering 11th and 12th grade in the fall are invited to attend the Hart School District’s 4th Annual College & Career Fair on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, from 6:30 – 9 pm, at the Hyatt Regency Valencia. More than 110 colleges and universities from across the country, career technical schools and apprenticeship programs will be available in an exhibit-style format to answer questions about admissions, campus life and financial aid.
The College & Career Fair is part of a larger fair schedule administered by a division of The Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities, AICCU. The Hart District event is in collaboration with a daytime event held at College of the Canyons for transfer students. Unlike the COC fair, the Hart District event includes many out-of-state colleges and universities as well as career schools and apprenticeship representatives. “We understand that not all of our high school graduates will attend a two-year or four-year college, but they will need post-secondary training if they are to advance to a good paying, promising career,” Janis Fiock, college and career advisor and fair coordinator, states. “Our fair is designed to provide students with the information they need to make the right college and career choices.”
An estimated 3,000 students and their parents are expected to attend again this fall. Last year attendees packed the ballrooms and foyers of the Hyatt eager to learn about post-secondary options and they were not disappointed at the variety of exhibitors on hand.
The tremendous turnout of students and their families at the fair reinforces the mission of the Hart School District’s Career Development Department, which is to provide programs and services that prepare students to be college and career ready. The need is there. In fact, turnout for the College & Career Fair has been so great that admission will be limited to juniors and seniors only this year, due to space limitations. This move is necessary to facilitate flow throughout the venue and to give students more access to program representatives.
Sponsors of the event are Wells Fargo, Newhall Branch as Corporate Sponsors; Neal Weichel / ReMax, Snow Orthodontics, Signal Multimedia, The Magazine of Santa Clarita, KHTSam1220 and SCVTV/scvnews.com.
