The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved $6,628,000 in grants for parks in the county’s Fifth Supervisorial District, and about half will go to parks in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Several of the grants are going to parks in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The county granted $1 million to the city of Santa Clarita for the Via Princessa Park Development Project. The city of Santa Clarita purchased about 26 acres for $651,000 from the county on October 25.

The Castaic Lake Recreation Area Improvements Project received $1 million to improve restroom roofing, replace picnic shelters, and refurbish exterior restrooms and parking lots.

The Castaic Sports Complex Jogging Path Project includes grading a replacement of a one mile jogging path, costing $143,000.

The Del Valle Park General Improvements Project in Castaic includes a new picnic shelter, new Americans with Disabilities Act accessible tables, barbecue grills, pathways, and the installation of a shade structure. The project was granted $185,000.

The Jake Kuredjian Park Play Area and Shade Structure Project in Stevenson Ranch includes a new play area and shade structure, as well as an ADA pathway. It was granted $250,000.

The Dr. Richard Rioux Park Picnic Area Project in Stevenson Ranch includes a new picnic shelter, ADA accessible tables, barbecue grills and pathways, as well as new fencing. It was granted $550,000.

Finally, the Val Verde Park General Improvements Project includes a new ADA pathway and was granted $150,000.

All of the projects, except for the Via Princessa Park Development Project in the city of Santa Clarita, were approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in June 2015. The process to apply for the grants began on October 18.
