This week the California Legislature’s Joint committee on the Arts held a hearing on the impacts of the film and television Tax Credit. Senator Scott Wilk, R-Antelope Valley, who coauthored the tax credit in 2014 and sits on the committee, issued the following statement:
“The hearing confirmed what we in the Santa Clarita Valley already know; this tax credit is working. Prior to this incentive, film and television productions were fleeing our state in droves, searching for more business friendly locations. After only two short years, we’ve seen thousands of jobs return to California as a direct response to our program.
“This momentous tax credit has helped the film industry believe that legislators in Sacramento are willing to do what it takes to ensure the entertainment sector continues to prosper as a driving economic force in this state. I look forward to our continued success and I’m committed to making the next iteration of the credit even better than our current one.”
The HBO series Ballers, formerly filmed in Florida, has returned to California and is now shot in Santa Clarita. New production is up in the area as well with a handful of television and commercial shoots taking place in the Santa Clarita Valley including A Wrinkle in Time and The Santa Clarita Diet.
