Wm. S. Hart

Welcome in the fall season with a horseback ride during Barger’s Trail Blazers ride on Sunday, Nov. 12, led by Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger and co-sponsored by the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation.

Barger’s predecessor, Michael D. Antonovich, established the Antonovich Trail Dusters Ride in 1992, and its popularity led to it being scheduled as a twice-yearly event. She is carrying on the tradition under the new name Barger’s Trail Blazers.

This trail ride will take place at Castaic Lake Staging Area, 32132 Castaic Lake Dr., Castaic, CA, and Supervisor Barger, who represents the Fifth District, will host the event beginning with a pancake breakfast at 7 a.m., to be followed by the trail ride at 9 a.m.

Non-riders are welcome, and riders under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Only service animals are welcome, and no stallions are allowed, which will be strictly enforced. Horse rentals are available.

The ride will last approximately 3.5 hours and includes rest stops and refreshment breaks. It will be traveled in single file through a combination of rolling hills, as well as minimally steep and sloping hills. The ride will end with a barbeque lunch and great live country-western music!

The purpose of Barger’s Trail Blazers ride is to promote public awareness about Los Angeles County’s magnificent system of more than 200 miles of multi-use trails, which feature connections to other municipal trail systems, and provides outdoor enthusiasts with a full range of recreational opportunities.

Tickets cost $30 each, which does not include horse rental. To rent a horse, please contact Lee Graham at (760) 245-7695, or email: info@grahambroslivestock.com.

For ticket reservations and event information, please call (661) 257-4050, or make an online reservation at http://reservations.lacounty.gov/reservations/product.asp.

Pre-registration is required by Friday, Nov. 10. Reservation forms may also be downloaded by visiting www.parks.lacounty.gov and should be mailed, along with payment, to Supervisor Barger’s Trail Ride, Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, 32132 Castaic Lake Dr., Castaic, CA 91384.

The event is co-sponsored by Los Angeles County Supervisor Barger and the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, in conjunction with the Bonelli Mounted Assistance Unit, the Whittier Narrows Mounted Assistance Unit, ETI Corral 21 and ETI Corral 77, Walnut Creek Mounted Assistance Unit and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Mounted Unit.
