Update 6:25 p.m.: Baxter the cat-napped kitten has been returned safely to the Shelter Hope Pet Shop at Valencia Town Center Mall.
“We are all beyond happy, as you can imagine!!” said Dani Caouette, Shelter Hope owner, in a Facebook post.
“He looks OK. Hungry, but OK,” she said. “We gave him his medication and will take him for a checkup.”
Caouette thanked the SCV Sheriff’s Station and local media for getting the word out Monday morning.
“We know this helped bring Baxter back to us safely,” she wrote. “We are so happy!!!”
Original post, 10:15 a.m. Monday:
The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station has sent out an all-points bulletin about “Baxter,” a male kitten stolen from his cage at the Shelter Hope Pet Shop in the Westfield Valencia Town Center Mall on Saturday between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
A post on the station’s Facebook page describes Baxter as a tiny kitten, weighing just over two pounds. He was rescued at great lengths by volunteers who transported him all the way from Texas in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
Volunteers have been nursing him back to health and he is currently dependent on daily medication.
If you have Baxter, please do the right thing and return him to the heartbroken staff at the Shelter Hope Pet Shop, a non-profit pet rescue and adoption shop, so they can continue monitoring his health.
If anyone knows the whereabouts of Baxter, please call the SCV Sheriff’s Station’s Detective Bureau at 661-255-1121 ext. 5146.
