Hundreds of business and community leaders gathered Wednesday at the Hyatt Valencia for the fifth annual State of the County address – delivered by Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, hosted by the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Valencia-based Princess Cruises.

“The supervisor is happy to be here with the chamber and our sponsors and the city and the unincorporated areas, as well,” said Tony Bell, a spokesman for Antonovich, during the luncheon.

Bell mentioned public safety as a top priority for Antonovich during the county’s most-senior serving supervisor’s talk.

“(The threat from re-alignment) is very, very important, and we want to stop that. It’s causing a public safety crisis throughout the county and the state,” Bell said.

Bell also acknowledged the Santa Clarita Valley’s contribution to the county’s Fifth District.

“The Santa Clarita Valley, of course, is a vibrant economic and residential community,” he said. “It’s very, very important to the Supervisor’s office.”

Antonovich also discussed transportation and the controversial high-speed rail.

SCV Chamber of Commerce leader Fred Arnold talked about what the chamber offers to the community it serves, providing an opportunity for the Santa Clarita Valley to grow and offering classes to help local business thrive, topics such as how to relate to the media and government officials.

“I think it’s wonderful that Supervisor Antonovich takes the time to pay attention to the local community like this,” said Councilman TimBen Boydston.

Chamber CEO Terri Crain and John Musella of the Musella Group and chairman of the, gave the opening remarks, thanking local leaders for joining them and thanking Antonovich for his attention to local issues, his pro-business initiatives and his commitment to fiscal responsibility.

The State of the County was unique among chamber events because it brought together the city and unincorporated areas, Crain said.
