LA County Library, along with Acton Agua Dulce Library, will join more than 1,000 libraries across the country to celebrate the celestial event of the century, the August 21, 2017 Solar Eclipse. The shadow of the moon will sweep across the United States in a narrow band from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic in a spectacle that hasn’t occurred in decades. It is aptly named the Great American Eclipse.

LA County Library will host a series of events from late July to August 21, all leading up to the eclipse. Events include astronomy classes, featuring the history of the solar eclipse; space-themed story times, art activities and movie nights; special guest appearances from NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and the Kidspace Museum’s Discovery Dome; and multiple viewing events on August 21, many complete with eclipse-safe glasses (while supplies last).

“This will be a great opportunity for the local community to celebrate science, with fun, hands-on and multimedia activities, culminating in the eclipse event on August 21,” said LA County Library Director, Skye Patrick. “We hope people of all ages and backgrounds will find the solar eclipse to be an experience they will remember the rest of their lives.”
