Catch a Special Thrill (C.A.S.T) for Kids Fishing Event will take place at Pyramid Lake on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Vaquero Beach – Vista del Lago entrance.
C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation is a national, nonprofit organization that works with local governmental agencies, organizations and businesses to stage outdoor fishing events for disabled and disadvantaged youth ranging in age from 7-14.
Agencies and organizations helping C.A.S.T for Kids and the Department of Water Resources with this event include the California Department of Fish & Wildlife, Santa Clarita Valley Water District, Rocky Mountain Recreation and many others.
This year C.A.S.T has invited 40 children from the local community to participate, along with approximately 75 volunteers. All participating children will be paired with an experienced boater/fisherman and will set out on the lake and learn how to fish for several hours. Each angler is educated about boating safety, angler ethics, and the importance of our environment and natural resources.
Refreshments and a barbecue luncheon for all the volunteers, along with an awards ceremony for the participants will follow. All boats are launched by 8:30 a.m. and return at approximately 11:00 a.m. for the on-shore activities.
This event will provide these extraordinary children with memories of a day of fishing on a lake that, due to their financial or medical situation, may never experience again.
