A 62-year-old woman who was riding a bicycle died after being struck by a vehicle in Newhall Friday morning.
The call came in at 7:10 a.m. as a traffic collision with a pedestrian, said Austin Bennett, a spokesman with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
“One pedestrian was struck and transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital,” Bennett said.
Three units responded to the scene by 7:14 a.m.
The victim was initially described as a male in his 50s, who died as a result of the impact, by Fire Capt. Stephen Cookus.
According to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, the identity of the person has not yet been released pending next of kin as of 9:15 a.m.
The driver of the car, a woman in her 50s, was not injured.
Northbound lanes on Railroad Avenue were re-opened as of 9:30 a.m. with deputies still investigating, according to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
