Effective April 2, 2025, The Los Angeles County Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is proud to announce that Bob Hope Patriotic Hall has been officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
This prestigious designation recognizes the building’s historical, architectural, and cultural significance as a landmark dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifice of the United States military community.
Constructed in 1925 and renamed in 2004 to honor legendary entertainer and tireless military supporter Bob Hope, Patriotic Hall has served as a beacon for veterans and military families in the heart of downtown Los Angeles for nearly a century. With its distinctive Romanesque Revival architecture and enduring role as a hub for veterans’ services, ceremonies, and community programs, the building stands as a living tribute to generations who have served in the Armed Forces.
“Bob Hope Patriotic Hall has long stood as a symbol of service and community here in the First District” said Supervisor Hilda L. Solis. “As Supervisor of the First District, I have worked closely with the Department of Military & Veterans Affairs to ensure that our veterans have access to critical services, such as housing, education, job opportunities, medical and mental health support, and more. Bob Hope Patriotic Hall brings hope, ensuring that, even in hardship, our veterans are not alone. Being recognized on the National Register of Historic Places affirms what so many of us have always known—that this building is not just brick and mortar, but a sacred space where generations of veterans have found support, honor, and purpose. This recognition ensures that its legacy will be preserved and celebrated for years to come.”
The listing on the National Register of Historic Places, maintained by the National Park Service, ensures that Bob Hope Patriotic Hall will be preserved and protected as a vital piece of American history. The designation also opens doors to federal preservation incentives and enhances public awareness of the building’s contributions to Los Angeles County and the nation.
“We are proud to continue Bob Hope Patriotic Hall’s 100-year legacy of supporting the military, veterans, their families, caregivers and, survivors” said Jim Zenner, Director of the LA County Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. “So much has changed over the decades, but our commitment to veterans and their families has never – and will never waver.”
The Department will begin planning for the centennial recognition of Bob Hope Patriotic Hall with a commemorative ceremony where this achievement will also be recognized later this year. Details will be announced as planning progresses.
