RMR Equipment Rental of Castaic and other construction firms in Palmdale and Lancaster are performing contract work on a new wind farm near Rosamond that recently signed its first contract to provide electricity.
To date, owner Iberdrola Renewables has erected about three-quarters of the 126 General Electric SLE 1.5-MW turbines – 90 of which were manufactured at GE’s Tehachapi factory – that will go into the Manzana Wind Power Project.
The company announced Wednesday that it has signed a 20-year contract to provide 50 megawatts of electricity from the new wind farm to Silicon Valley Power in Santa Clara.
“We are delighted to continue to help this important customer meet its renewable portfolio goals,” Iberdrola Vice President Martin Mugica said in a statement. “Our Manzana project will provide Santa Clara with clean, cost-competitive, renewable energy while putting Californians to work.”
Some of those Californians are right around the corner. Among the contractors are RMR Equipment, which is providing water trucks for the construction project. Earth Systems of Palmdale is doing inspections and materials testing, while Granite Construction of Lancaster is handling road improvements and supplying concrete aggregates.
Construction is being managed by Blattner Energy of Avon, Minn., which is using mostly California suppliers and contractors. The others are:
– Conco Pumping, Fontana – Concrete pumping
– System 3 Inc., Carmichael – Tower wiring & grounding
– CSI Contractors Inc., Bakersfield – O&M building
– Soils Engineering, Bakersfield – Survey services
– PAR Electrical Contractors, Fontana – Gen-tie line and 220kV substation construction
– Rosendin Electric Inc., San Jose – 34.5kV Collector systems
– MCM Construction, North Highlands – Aqueduct bridges
– General Electric, Carson – Down tower assemblies
– Bragg Crane Service, Mojave – Off-site storage crane service
– Pacific Coast Steel, San Bernardino – Rebar fabrication
– Holliday Readymix, Mojave – Concrete supply
Iberdrola Renewables Inc. is headquartered in Portland, Ore. It has more than 850 employees and approximately 5,000 megawatts of renewable energy in its fleet.
