This week’s SCVTV/California Superstores Outstanding Student of the Week is Christina Springer from Canyon High School. Christina has a 4.63 GPA and scored 2170 on the SAT. While Berkeley and UC-Irvine are on her list of colleges she wants to attend, her number one choice is the University of Pennsylvania.
“In a sense, yeah,” Christina responded when asked if she wants to leave Canyon Country. “But not really. I’ve always loved Pennsylvania. My family went there when I was about ten and I just fell in love with it. And then this summer we went and visited, and it’s just the most amazing school and it’s Ivy League so that’s part of it as well.”
As Christina went through school, she began to realize with her grades and her test scores the Ivy League was within reach, and that became a focal point.
“My brother is also a really good student and he applied to Stanford and didn’t get in,” she said. “Initially I was like, I probably can’t (get in to an Ivy League school). But the more I look at the numbers and things, the more I think I have a shot.”
No matter where she ends up, Christina wants to study Mechanical Engineering.
“My dad is an engineer and he works at a place called NTS,” Christina said. “When I visited there I also fell in love with just the idea of (engineering). And just building things, to me, is just so much fun. You get to create your own thing when you’re an engineer. I’d really like to design roller coasters, which is why I want to get in to mechanical engineering. But that’s pretty unlikely.”
Congratulations to Christina Springer of Canyon High School, the SCVTV/California Superstores Outstanding Student of the Week.
