This week’s SCVTV/California Superstores Outstanding Student of the Week is Nicole Orefice from Saugus High School. Nicole carries a cumulative GPA of 4.53, scored 1900 on her first attempt at the SAT and a 29 on the ACT. She knows how tough it is to get where she wants to go.
“Today in society it is so competitive that I think having good grades is one of the only ways to be successful,” Nicole said.
Nicole is senior class president at Saugus and hopes that distinction, along with her grades, will help her get to one of the UCs. But she is keeping her options open, options that include going out of state. Still, her number one choice is UCLA.
“I’ve been there because I watched a softball game there,” she said. “I like the environment. It’s close enough to home, but it’s far enough away where I’m on my own.”
She is thinking about mathematics as a major and perhaps going toward engineering.
“I know I really like math and I’m pretty decent at it too,” Nicole said. “I feel like there is not a lot of women in the field either, so that will give me (more) opportunity as well.”
Congratulations to to Nicole Orefice from Saugus High School, the SCVTV/ California Superstores Outstanding Student of the Week.
