This week’s SCVTV/California Superstores Outstanding Student of the Week is Sarah Barritt from Valencia High School.  Sarah has a 4.75 GPA and scored 2160 on her first attempt at the SAT.  She simply expects to get an A in every class.

“It’s just something that I’ve always worked towards,” Sarah said.  “Ever since I can remember I come home from school and I just have to do all my homework.  I can’t even imagine not getting an A, and it’s what I want to work towards my future.”

Sarah acknowledges one person in her life who has inspired her academic achievement.

“My grandfather,” she said.  “He grew up very poor in Maine during the Great Depression and ended up going to UCLA and becoming the CFO of a bank.  And he did it all through studying and school work and getting good grades.  Ever since I can remember, he, as much as my parents of course, he was my inspiration to do good in school because that’s how you get places in life.”

When it comes to colleges…

“I actually don’t have a top school,” Sarah said.  “I have a lot of schools I’m applying to; several UC’s, a ton of privates, some on the east coast some in California…  Probably about ten schools are on my main list…  I like that I don’t have one top school because it keeps my options open.  If I don’t get in to one school I’d be happy going to any of the schools I’m applying to.  So I like that.”

Her plans are to become a doctor, and specifically a pediatrician, one who has the ability to heal with the nurturing care of a nurse.

“I love kids, kids love me.  Grumpy, sick old people are grumpy,” she said laughing.  “But young people are always such a joy to deal with you know, and they’re just so happy.  You know, from the mouths of babes.  But I have wanted to be a doctor ever since I knew what a doctor was.  I love helping people and I hate how it’s become that stereotype where doctors do the clinical stuff and nurses are the ones who care for them.  I’m such a caring, empathetic person, but I want to do the healing.  So I kind of want to change that stereotype because I don’t like it.”
