As part of National Bike Month, the city of Santa Clarita will host a week of bicycle-focused events and activities leading up to and after the world-class cycling race, Amgen Tour of California, presented by AEG. The city is honored to host a stage of America’s Greatest Race for the 12th year and to offer plenty of activities for families to enjoy during National Bike Month.

Santa Clarita’s Bike Week will officially kick off with the Hit the Trail Community Bike Ride on Saturday, May 13, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. The event will begin and end at Valencia Heritage Park, located at 24155 Newhall Ranch Road. With the choice of a 4-mile or 9-mile route, the whole family will enjoy this leisurely, guided bicycle ride. Participants will also enjoy a family fun fair with a special Mother’s Day craft booth, tricycle races, food and raffle prizes and giveaways from the Amgen Tour of California Street Team.

On Monday, May 15, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., ladies are invited to join the Women’s Cycling Social. Meet at South Fork Trailhead, located on Magic Mountain Parkway half a mile east of Valencia Boulevard, and enjoy a casual, guided ride with members of the SCV Bicycle Coalition.

All students in Santa Clarita are encouraged to ride their bikes to school Tuesday, May 16, for Bike to School Day. This is the perfect occasion for students to enjoy the fresh air, reduce the number of cars on the road and contribute to the improvement of air quality. Visit BikeSantaClarita.com/maps to plan your route!

The Amgen Tour of California Viewing Party will take place on Tuesday, May 16, at 7:00 p.m. Come to Pocock Brewing Company, located at 24907 Avenue Tibbitts Suite B, to watch coverage of the Amgen Tour of California and possibly win giveaways. This event is free and fills quickly, so be sure to get there early. Attendees are responsible for their own food and drink purchases.

Top professional cyclists from 16 top teams will race into Santa Clarita for the Amgen Tour of California Stage 4 Finish, presented by Visit California, on Wednesday, May 17. The fun begins with the free, day-long Lifestyle Festival opening at noon near the finish line at Magic Mountain Parkway at Westfield Valencia Town Center. Spectators can enjoy 40+ exhibitors and activities, and watch cyclists battle their way nearly 100 miles from Santa Barbara to Santa Clarita live on jumbotrons at the festival with suspense building until they sprint into town along Magic Mountain Parkway for the Stage Finish. The festival and race will end at 4 p.m. This international sporting event is one of the most prestigious races in the world, and is free with parking available at Westfield Valencia Town Center, located at 24201 Valencia Boulevard.

A friendly competition will take place between participating businesses in the city of Santa Clarita for the 14th annual Bike to Work Day on Thursday, May 18. Take the pledge to ride your bike to work at GreenSantaClarita.com. Five bicycle pit stops will be available, and Santa Clarita Transit and Metrolink will offer free rides to commuters with a bike and helmet.

Santa Clarita’s Bike Week will finish with the Evening Social Ride and Meet Up on Friday, May 19, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Participants set up their own cycling group and meet up at Wolf Creek Brewery for live music, coverage of Amgen Tour of California, giveaways and more. For rider convenience, a designated parking lot will be available at the entrance of Rye Canyon Loop for those who want to park their cars and start their ride.

The annual Bike Week is a part of the city of Santa Clarita’s commitment to creating an environment that promotes safe and fun bicycling experiences. BikeSantaClarita.com offers several tips and tools for enhancing riders’ experiences on city trails. All Bike Week event details are also available at BikeSantaClarita.com.
