A COC design student won $1,000 in a design competition for National Kitchen and Bath Association students.
The National Kitchen and Bath Association sponsored an in-class competition for COC’s Kitchen and Bath design class only, consolidating the contestants to only those registered for that specific class.
“Winning means so much to me and I went into shock a little when I found out. As for the future, I definitely think this will further my design career and aspirations,” said Ashley Hamersky, a COC student.
“This is the first time we have done anything like this on campus,” said John Turturro, the professor who taught the class and organized the competition. “And the projects were out of this world; very imaginative, and highly creative projects.”
Being able to compete against only the 20 or so which were in the class versus the amount of contestants which compete nationally gave students a pretty good chance to win the $1,000 cash prize and the prestigious NKBA winner title, said Turturro. There was an in-class judging panel consisting of NKBA members.
Kathrin Shamam, won second place and the $500 cash prize, and Caroline Siler received an honorable mention.
The NKBA sponsored competition is published online on their website. It’s a great portfolio piece for a design student and having achieved this will be extremely beneficial for their future careers.
