Tip of the Week: Your bicycle is only as secure as what you lock it to.
We just survived a brutal heat wave, and now that it will be cooling down slightly, many of us will be taking our bicycles out to enjoy the numerous paseos and bike trails all throughout our city. When we stop for a break, it is important to assure that our bicycles are properly secured when left unattended. When locking your bicycle, assure that you are using a good quality lock, and that you are attaching it to a secure, fixed item. If youhave parts that are easily removed, such as seats and wheels, assure that they are secured as well, or take the parts with you. Never leave your bicycle attached to a roof rack or trunk rack overnight. These items do not offer enough security to assure that your bicycle is not taken. Always record the serial numbers of your bicycles. If your bicycle is stolen, it is possible to trace the bicycle down should someone attempt to sell it to a bicycle or pawn shop.
