Tip of the Week: ‘Tis the Season for Package Thieves
Many of us will do a lot of our Christmas shopping online, and will be expecting packages delivered to our homes. And as such, many thieves will also be anticipating these deliveries. Here are some tips to help avoid being a victim.
1. Try to arrange to have someone home when your packages are delivered, or possibly see if a neighbor will pick them up for you.
2. Instruct delivery companies to leave packages behind pillars of your home, behind landscaping, or to drop them over the backyard fence where they cannot be seen.
3. Keep an eye on the tracking information if available. If your package is late, call the shipping company immediately. If the company confirms that the package was delivered, call the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station to file a report.
4. Video cameras and signs posting that security cameras are in use are great deterrents and will help keep thieves off your property.
Take care, and be safe.
