The Master’s University women’s cross country team continued its 2017 campaign with an outstanding showing at its annual home event, the TMU XC Invitational.
The Lady Mustangs, who rank 8th in the NAIA, finished first overall in the women’s 5k open with a collective time of 1 hour, 33 minutes, and 52 seconds.
Mikala Fairchild led TMU’s efforts by placing second overall with an outstanding time of 17:53.8, while Abigail Frankian finished in fourth-place at 18:03.1.
Rachelle Nelson earned a sixth-place finish with a time of 18:42.8, while Rylee Bishop clocked a final time 19:10.2 and a 15th-place finish.
Ariana Sciarra finished the 5k in 20:02.9 (33rd place), Emily Bodine clocked a final time of 21:21.9 (45th place), and Kayla Gray rounded things off with a respectable time of 21:59.8 (50th place).
“This is a great group of girls to coach,” TMU Head Coach Zach Schroeder said. “Our team captain Mikala Fairchild led the way for our women today and earned a top-10 spot overall. She is an extremely coachable athlete and is racing the best she ever has. Mikala leads a group of young women that are highly invested in the team and striving hard to worship the Lord through all they do.
“Our women’s team is undefeated in the NAIA up to this point in the year, and we are really looking forward to peaking at the end of the season and seeing all of the hard work pay off at nationals,” he said.
Here are all the results.
Next up for the Mustangs is the Vanguard Invitational on October 14 at the Irvine Regional Park in Orange.
