Hailey Gomillion has shown a flair for the dramatic this season for The Master’s University women’s soccer team.
Never more than Saturday when the senior forward scored in the 105th minute to lift No. 24 TMU to a 1-0 win over Marymount California University.
The game, played at El Camino College in Torrance, Calif., remained scoreless until Vanessa Lourenco connected a pass to Gomillion, who scored in the 80th minute or later for the third time this season. Gomillion raised her arms in celebration before a group of teammates tackled her.
It was Gomillion’s second game-winner. And it gave TMU it’s fourth win in its last five games. The Mustangs (6-2-1) are unbeaten since Aug. 24.
Goals, however, haven’t come as frequently as they did a year ago, when the Mustangs nearly set a program record for offensive productivity. For the third game in a row, TMU was forced to overtime in a game in which it allowed one or no goals.
To that point, the defense has been steady.
A back line anchored by Laura English and Kayla Peterson has now recorded four shutouts on the year. Four times, the Mustangs have limited opponents to three or fewer shots. That wasn’t the case Saturday, as Master’s won the category only 16 to 12 during regulation.
But the Mustangs held Marymount without a shot in either overtime, and Gomillion secured a pleasant bus ride.
