Terry Deloria

After 27 years with the Hart School District, Terry Deloria, EdD., Director of Special Programs and Staff Development, has accepted the position of Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services for the Santa Monica – Malibu Unified School District, effective Sept. 3.

Dr. Deloria began her teaching career as a math teacher at Hart High School in 1985, earning her administrative credential in 1998 and accepting a position as assistant principal at Canyon High School, that year. She was promoted to her current position in 2000, where she supervised state and federal categorical programs, including English Language Development, Title I / No Child Left Behind, AVID and Advanced Placement, in addition to providing leadership for staff development, school improvement programs, student intervention programs, standards-based instruction training for teachers, grantwriting, software implementation for student improvement, special education curriculum development and school accreditation programs.

Dr. Deloria is looking forward to her promotion to assistant superintendent, however, she feels sad in leaving her “Hart family” after working for the District for her entire career, starting when she was a newlywed with a three-month old baby. Now her three kids are college age with one starting medical school this year. “I’m going to miss everyone here,” Deloria said. “I am going to still be part of the Santa Clarita community and will keep in touch with my Hart friends.”

Dr. Deloria earned her doctorate in educational leadership in May 2011. “I really grew here as an educator and appreciate all the support from administrators over the years,” Deloria said. “I had so many opportunities to have a positive impact on our students and learning outcomes.” She is looking forward to new challenges that this promotion will bring. Santa Monica – Malibu UHSD is a K-12 district with an enrollment of 11,500 and covers a unique geography including two cities, Santa Monica and Malibu.

“Dr. Deloria has made a significant impact on the student achievement in the Hart District,” Superintendent Rob Challinor said. “Her commitment to ensuring success for all students is an exemplary practice that all educators should aspire to achieve.”
