BAKERSFIELD — College of the Canyons extended its streak of first place tourney finishes to six and sophomore Haruka Koda earned medalist honors as the Cougars topped the field once again at the Western State Conference (WSC) event hosted by Bakersfield College on Wednesday.
Canyons carded a four-player score of 323 on the par-72 course at Rio Bravo Country Club. As has been the recent trend, Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) finished second at 343 with Citrus College a distant third at 435.
Koda continued her dominate sophomore campaign with a four-over-par score of 76, three shots ahead of teammate Jessie Lin (79) in the second place spot.
Paige Heuer finished her round at 81, good for fourth place, to give Canyons three golfers in the tourney’s top-five spots.
Fredeliza Lieberman (87) was the final player to score for Canyons. Shabana Poswal and Delaney Young both finished at 91, but did not have their scores count towards the final tally.
COC sports a perfect 25-0 record through five conference events. Canyons also won the annual North-South Invitational played at Morro Bay Golf Course, site of the CCCAA State Championships, late last month.
The Cougars will continue a busy month of action with two tourneys over the next week.
Up first, COC will compete at the WSC event hosted by Citrus College on Monday, Oct. 14, at San Dimas Canyon Golf Course.
Canyons is back on the course two days later for the CCCAA Southern California Preview event at Via Verde Golf Club on Oct. 16.
