A man was fatally stabbed on Dewdrop Avenue in Canyon Country early Monday morning, and another man was taken into custody soon after, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department authorities.

The stabbing victim was identified as Brent Hariston, 29, of Canyon Country, Sarah Aradalani, spokesperson for the Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, said Monday afternoon.

The suspect is a 35-year-old man arrested nearby, Lt. John Corina of the LASD Homicide Bureau told SCVNews.com Monday afternoon.

A kitchen-type knife believed to be the murder weapon was also recovered at the scene, Corina said.

The suspect was being booked on murder charges at the SCV Sheriff’s Station. Corina said the suspect’s identity would not be released until his processing was complete.

Corina responded to the 27400 block of Dewdrop Avenue in Canyon Country at 6 a.m. Monday to investigate reports of the stabbing death of a male adult.

The victim and the suspect, a male Hispanic 35 years old, were acquaintances who were involved in an argument on the front lawn of the residence at approximately 5:30 a.m., according to officials.

A resident saw what was happening and called 911. When deputies arrived, they found the victim on the front lawn of the residence suffering from stab wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

As detectives arrived on the scene, the suspect fled into the neighborhood on foot. He was located hiding in a backyard in the same block where the stabbing occurred, Corina said.
