1946, 11:20pm: William S. Hart, 81, dies at L.A.'s California Lutheran Hospital, leaving his Newhall estate and his (now West) Hollywood home to the public [story]
Hart dies

West Coast auto racing enthusiasts, “Fast & Furious” fans and family and friends of the late actor Paul Walker are gearing up for the inaugural In Memory of Paul Car Hangout, set for College of the Canyons in Valencia on Sunday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Taking over the parking lot adjacent to Cougar Stadium, the event will feature Walker’s brothers Caleb and Cody; “Fast & Furious” stars and other celebrity actors, actresses and professional athletes; cars built in Santa Clarita for the “Fast & Furious” movies; Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Hummer and other celebrity cars; Extreme Lee; exotic, classic and imported cars; car accessories and food vendors; and more.

All proceeds from admission and sponsorships will benefit Reach Out WorldWide, the nonprofit organization Walker established in 2010 to aid first-responders when disaster strikes anywhere in the world.

“The In Memory of Paul Car Hangout is such a great event because it will bring people together for a wonderful cause while they have a great time seeing all kinds of special, one-of-a-kind cars,” said Chris Lee, Santa Clarita-based entrepreneur and event organizer. “For a guy or girl who loves cars, and loves the ‘Fast & Furious’ movies, this is a dream come true.”

Walker and Roger Rodas were killed on Nov. 30, 2013, when the 2005 Porsche Porsche Carrera GT Rodas was driving crashed on Hercules Drive in Valencia. Walker was in Santa Clarita for a fundraising event for Reach Out WorldWide. The seventh “Fast & Furious” film, in production when Walker died, was retooled and released posthumously in 2015.

While Walker fans have staged informal meetups in his honor since his death, including at the crash site, the May 20 event at COC is the first U.S. event sanctioned by his family and business associates.

“The SCV community sure came together after the crash and tried to help in any way possible — it was an act of love and compassion,” Lee said. “I see the Car Hangout as an extension of that, for this community to come together again and help the organization Paul left behind that does amazing things for people who cannot help themselves. To me, it’s a reflection of God’s love for us.”

Also owner of Starting5 and Starting6, Lee has a passion for helping people through his businesses. “I got to know Paul’s brothers, and wanted to help raise money for the important cause Paul left behind,” he said. “So, we have teamed up to put on this first-ever ‘In Memory of Paul’ car show in the United States, right here in Santa Clarita.”

Lee never had the chance to meet Walker, but always admired the actor’s passion and commitment of his time and resources to help others.

“He was such an example of love in action,” Lee said. “Now, this is our chance to carry on that legacy in his honor, by helping Reach Out WorldWide continue to its mission helping others.”

Tickets, Vendors, Sponsorships
General admission for the In Memory of Paul Car Hangout will be $5 per person for people ages 6 years and older. Kids 5 and younger will be free.

To purchase admission tickets, go to InMemoryOfPaul.com or click here.

Walker fans can also book a VIP lunch with Cody and Caleb, who served as stand-ins for their brother in the revamped “Fast & Furious 7.” The lunch’s sticker price is $250 per person and it’s limited to the first 100 people who sign up. A goodie bag and photo op with the Walker brothers is included in the deal.

The fee to enter a car to be displayed at the event is $25 per vehicle, with a limit of two per person.

Vendors on board so far include Tesla, Redline Gauge Works and Chronic Tacos. More are being added daily. Booth spaces run $500 (10’ x 10’), $1,000 (10’ x 20’) and $2,000 (20’ x 40’). Add an Easy-Up for $150. Vendors may book a booth here.

Event sponsorships are also available now. Chronic Tacos is the lead sponsor and opportunities are open for additional sponsors.

The $10,000 sponsorship fee includes the sponsor’s name on all advertising as a proud supporter; social media mentions from Cody Walker; a 20’ x 40’ space for company displays; a logo at the event’s main entrance; tickets to the VIP lunch with Cody and Caleb Walker; and more.

About Reach Out WorldWide
The nonprofit Reach Out WorldWide mobilizes quickly and travels to affected areas, sending qualified team members including doctors, EMTs, paramedics and search and rescue professionals to provide first aid, medical supplies, water filters and other life-saving necessities.

Just in the past couple of years, ROWW teams have aided search, rescue and cleanup efforts after floods in Arkansas/Missouri, Louisiana and South Carolina; hurricanes affecting Florida, the Gulf Coast, Texas, Haiti and Puerto Rico; and tornados in Alabama and Texas.

Reflecting Walker’s worldwide fame and the widespread support for his charity organization, similar family-sanctioned events have also been staged this spring in Australia and Japan.

The inaugural U.S. Car Hangout In Memory of Paul will take place at COC, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia 91355.

Here is My Perspective – THE FOLLOWERS OF THE FAST AND FURIOUS FRANCHISE ARE AS THOSE WITH A DISEASED WICKED MIND, A RELIGION OF DANGEROUS SELFISHNESS, CONTEMPT AND DISREGARD FOR OTHERS – THEY BOW TO THE EVIL TRINITY OF DODGE, VIN DEISEL AND THE FAST AND FURIOS FRANCHISE – It is a brotherhood of evil demons and other hell inspired cars – http://commercecrash2-27-2016.blogspot.com/2016/10/the-thugs-and-criminals.html

It seems Paul Walker was a very good person, however because he died in a reckless automobile accident, this is the wrong way to commemorate him. Maybe do something along the lines of the various charities he participated in?

  9. Roger Langford says:

I find it quite obnoxious that none of these articles ever bring attention to the fact that these 2 people died unnecessarily by racing a modified Porsche at reckless and illegal speeds around public streets in the Santa Clarita Valley. It is fine to honor that they were both good, kind and caring individuals….but to whitewash and dilute the actual cause of the death is an injustice. ESPECIALLY WITH ALL OF THE FATALITY DEATHS THAT OCCUR ON OUR ROADWAYS OUT HERE IN RECENT YEARS. EDUCATE OUR YOUNG PEOPLE. THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING THAT PORSCHE ON A RACEWAY AND NOT ON CITY STREETS. IF THEY HAD BEEN MORE RESPONSIBLE, THIS WOULD NOT BE A MEMORIAL.
