Joey Downey carded a 3-under 213 to lead The Master’s College mens golf team at the California State Intercollegiate Classic.
HEMET, Calif. – On Tuesday, The Master’s men’s golf team finished its time at the California State Intercollegiate Classic at Diamond Valley Golf Course with a collective score of 870 (286-295-289).
Overall, the Mustangs finished third of 12, only three strokes behind second-place Claremont Mudd Scripps (287-292-288).
Notably, TMC placed higher than any other competing Golden State Athletic Conference school.
The 16th-ranked CSU San Marcos Cougars placed first overall with a team score of 846 (286-285-275).
Joey Downey (Santa Clarita, CA) continued his strong start to the 2014-15 campaign by carding 3-under 213 (69-71-73).
Following Downey, Josh Gardella (Littleton, CO) tied for fourth after shooting 2-under 214 (74-69-71).
Highlighting the squad’s four freshman was Sam Eisenhuth (Embarrass, MN). Eisnehuth finished the two-day event after making par (69-77-70).
Commenting on his team’s performance, head coach Jason Semelsberger said, “We’re encouraged by the improvement that we’ve made as a team. We’re a younger team, and any time we can get experience, it helps us grow. Now, as we have a long break, we’ll look to improve on some things and hopefully get better. ”
Now, the Mustangs will take over a month off before competing again at the CSU San Marcos Fall Classic on the greens of the Twin Oaks Golf Course in San Marcos on November 4.
