When The Master’s University baseball team heads to Phoenix this week, it hopes to drive south without letting its season go that way.
The Mustangs looked every bit the No. 14 team in the NAIA over last weekend, with a dominating three-game sweep of Marymount California University. Now, they’ll take part in the 4-Him Classic hosted by Arizona Christian on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, playing four games against teams coach Monte Brooks expects to test TMU (3-0).
Master’s opens the set Thursday evening against the University of St. Katherine, which took a game off No. 8 Hope International – likely the biggest threat to the Mustangs in the Golden State Athletic Conference – in the teams’ opening series last week.
The Mustangs will play The College of Idaho (0-0) on Friday morning, before taking on Benedictine University (Mesa) later in the day.
Benedictine (1-2) also opened its season against a GSAC opponent, dropping two of three to Arizona Christian in Phoenix.
Master’s lost to the Redhawks in the teams’ only meeting last season, 3-2, at the 4-Him tournament, where the Mustangs lost the first two games before bouncing back to beat The University of Mary and Providence Christian (the team TMU plays Saturday).
The Mustangs’ first three games in Arizona will be at Gene Autry Park in Mesa, while their final contest will be hosted at Arizona Christian. All times listed on our schedule are Pacific Standard Time. All four games will be broadcast live here.
