Santa Clarita residents can drop off unwanted hazardous household and electronic waste during a household hazardous waste and e-waste roundup at College of the Canyons’ Valencia campus on Saturday, November 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
COC’s Valencia campus is located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia 91355. Residents should enter the event site by turning onto University Center Drive from Rockwell Canyon Road.
A free event, the roundup allows residents to safely and securely dispose of household hazardous waste and unwanted electronic equipment, or e-waste.
Items accepted at the event include brake fluid, paint*, paint thinner, cleaners containing acid or lye, pesticides or herbicides, household and car batteries, pool chemicals, motor oil, oil filters, expired medications, anti-freeze and fluorescent light bulbs.
E-waste items that may be recycled include computers, monitors, televisions, computer CPUs, keyboards, printers, cell phones, VCRs, fax machines and stereos.
Residents disposing of household hazardous waste at the event should pack items in a sturdy box, preferably in their original labeled containers.
Participants should be prepared to leave containers and boxes at the collection site and are advised to empty all other items from their trunk.
Upon arrival at the event, residents may remain in their cars while trained personnel remove the hazardous waste from the trunk.
*Residents may also recycle paint at participating retailers through the PaintCare program. Details are available at GreenSantaClarita.com.

Wow.
Are they taking documents to be shredde?
Don’t think they’ll do shredding, but how about sharps? I think some hazardous waste collections have taken sharps in the past. I’m at a loss, now that the Sheriff’s Dept. has removed their collection box. I have a cat that needs insulin injections twice a day, so I have lots of sharps that need safe disposal. They’re already shielded with plastic needle covers and are packed in containers with lids, so they’re very safe.
