Learn about a day the the life of a rescue dog by attending A Day In The Paws, the biggest annual fundraiser for The Brittany Foundation.

Volunteers at the event – to be held Nov. 7 from noon to 4 p.m. – will gather donations from friends, family members and animal lovers in order to “buy” their freedom from the shelter cages they will share with a four-legged friend for up to 24 hours.

The “jail” time will be spent in a 12’ x 12’ kennel along with a canine buddy, with the volunteer taking only water and restroom breaks. While the volunteer jail time can run as long as noon on Nov. 7 to noon of the next day, most volunteers are released in several hours, as they have their freedom purchased, at the price of $1 a minute.

This is the seventh year of A Day In The Paws, the main fundraiser of The Brittany Foundation, the nonprofit 501c3 charged with the care and placement of homeless dogs in the Santa Clarita Valley area.

Since 1994, The Brittany Foundation has placed over 1800 dogs with loving owners. There are currently about 45 dogs at the shelter, according to Nancy Anderson, Founder (and Chief Pooper Scooper) of The Brittany Foundation.

The Brittany Foundation shelter welcomes all breeds and ages of canine and, as a no-kill shelter, has had future pets in their care for as long as a year and as short a time as three weeks. The dogs and puppies receive all necessary medical care and are microchipped before being taken to their new home.

This year’s fundraiser will highlight several fan favorite events from past fundraisers, including an open house, drink refreshments from local vendors, a silent auction and a bake sale.

The event will take place at the at the sanctuary location in Agua Dulce at Sierra Highway and Anthony Road.
