The University of Antelope Valley Pioneers (3-10) were victorious Saturday evening defeating the Hawks of San Diego Christian College (5-6), 84-67 in intercollegiate men’s basketball NAIA non-conference action inside the MacArthur Center in Santa Clarita.
It was all-UAV the entire evening as the Pioneers would lead by seven points at the intermission and would go on to outscore the Hawks in the second half, 43-33 en route to earning their third victory of the season handily, 84-67.
Senior forward Christian Drayton (Lufkin, TX) led all Pioneers with 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to collect his seventh double-double of the year, now tied with Sheldon Blackwell for the most in program history, junior guard Kamal Holden (Los Angeles, CA) poured in 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and one block, and junior forward Kane Keil (Auckland, New Zealand) contributed with 11 points, three rebounds and one steal.
Junior center Deividas Mockaitis (Kaunas, Lithuania) scored nine points, grabbed four rebounds and stole the ball once, and senior guard Miles Nolen-Webb (San Diego, CA) and junior guard Chris Johnson (Los Angeles, CA) each finished with six points, combining also for eight boards and five assists.
UAV hit 30-of-66 field goals (.455), 6-of-21 three-pointers (.286), 18-of-29 free throws (.621), and outrebounded the Hawks, 54-28. UAV committed 16 turnovers and stole the ball six times. SDCC made 23-of-63 shots (.365), 9-of-28 three-pointers (.321) and 12-of-18 free throws (.667) and committed 11 turnovers and stole the ball from UAV four times.
Next game: Coached by Darwin Cook, the Pioneers return home to host California State University-Maritime for a California Pacific Conference game on Thursday, Jan. 3 at 7:30 p.m. PST inside the Pioneer Event Center (PEC) in Lancaster, Calif.
