This week, Los Angeles County Probation Child Welfare officials launched “Fostering Home,” a creative advertising campaign urging L.A. residents to open their homes and hearts to one of the area’s thousands of children and teens in need.
The campaign is a collaboration with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services and other nonprofit partners.
Probation Child Welfare currently serves approximately 600 adolescents and teens with intensive support and foster care services. According to Probation Bureau Chief Paul Vinetz, a supportive and caring family can be what changes the trajectory of a young person’s life.
“Many of the young people in Probation’s care have experienced challenges early in life,” Vinetz said. “The intensive support services we provide, combined with the caring environment offered by foster parents, allows young people to not just succeed but thrive.”
“Fostering Home” (fosteringhome.org) provides a portal for anyone looking to sign-up or simply learn more about becoming a foster parent. Video advertisements can be viewed on the site and will be airing across multiple digital platforms, streaming, and television networks over the coming months. Individuals with questions or wanting to learn more can sign-up online or call 323-207-0260.
Los Angeles County Probation Child Welfare is hoping to find individuals and families with the ability to care for teens and young adults. The agency works with local Foster Family Agencies to train and certify households to take in and care for a teen. Foster families receive a tax-free monthly stipend to meet the needs of taking in a young person and foster youth are eligible for numerous county and state-provided services, including health care, counseling and many other offerings.
“If you have ever thought about giving back by sharing your home and/or your heart with a young person in need, even in the smallest way, we encourage you to learn more,” said Probation Director Lisa Campbell-Motton. “There are many ways to support a young person successfully transition into adulthood, so if you cannot share your home at this time, please find out about our ‘Forever Friends’ program.”
