A man suspected of multiple violent crimes was arrested at gunpoint by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station deputies in Newhall after a stakeout and pursuit late Friday morning, according to authorities.
Deputies received a report that the suspect, wanted for rape, kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon, had threatened to show up at a fast food restaurant in Saugus to kidnap his victim, who worked there, authorities said.
“We set up an operation and tried to arrest him, but he fled the scene,” said Lt. Leo Bauer of the SCV Sheriff Station Friday afternoon.
“We ultimately stopped him down in Newhall, and he surrendered without any further incident,” Bauer said.
“We had information that he could be armed and dangerous,” Bauer said, which is why deputies had their weapons drawn while arresting the suspect on Newhall Avenue near the intersection of 15th Street.
Bauer said he could not provide the suspect’s or victim’s identities, and that the case was now being investigated by the LA Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Bureau because it involves a sexual assault.
“Because of that, there are certain laws and procedures and confidentiality issues, and we just can’t divulge that information at this time,” Bauer said.
