As part of annual roadway improvements, the city of Santa Clarita will reconfigure two area streets to include a bicycle lane in both directions.
In the coming weeks, road work and restriping projects will add lanes for cyclists on Plum Canyon Road and Smyth Drive. Recent traffic studies indicate that the addition of bike lanes on these stretches of roadway will not impact traffic circulation. Construction is anticipated to begin Monday, Sept. 16 and last approximately one month.
Plum Canyon Road, from Bouquet Canyon Road to Steinway Street, a portion of which was recently annexed into the City with the Skyline Ranch neighborhood, will be resurfaced with an asphalt concrete overlay. The new surface offers an opportunity to provide enhanced striping to best provide for current and future uses of the roadway.
Plum Canyon Road is identified in the City’s transportation plans to be striped for bike lanes to connect existing bicycle facilities on Bouquet Canyon Road with those on Golden Valley Road and Skyline Ranch Road. Improvements to the road are designed to enhance roadway safety while meeting current and projected traffic demand.
At the same time, the addition of bike lanes will expand opportunities for bicycling for commuting or exercise. At the completion of the project, the roadway will include two vehicular travel lanes and one bike lane in each direction.
Smyth Drive, between Dickason Drive and Copper Hill Drive in Valencia, will also receive new bike lanes as part of this project. This section of roadway is able to accommodate new bike lanes without changing the number of travel lanes for vehicles. Available public parking on the north side of Smyth Drive will not be impacted by the addition of the bike lanes.
This project is part of the city of Santa Clarita’s ongoing effort to consider the comfort and safety of all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists and transit users.

Please raise manhole covers, and gate valve covers, in order to accomplish a smooth ride on the new surface. Also, have the contractor pick up all spilled tailings around the construction accesses. Thanks, from an old pro. Jim
Ditto; Smyth currently has random lumps of asphalt that are real rim busters.
How many people use bike lane… may one or two compared to thousands that use cars for work
Don’t mess up the roads with bike lane instead add driving lanes. Whites canyon needs three lanes from Nadal to whites canyon
Good to see striped bike lanes. It is time car drivers learn that others use the roads, too.
