Representatives from the Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers attended Stevenson Ranch Elementary School on Tuesday to present a $200 classroom grant to third-grade teacher Tim McMenamin – the winner of a drawing at last month’s Rubber Ducky Festival.

The festival, which raises month for the three Samuel Dixon clinics in the Santa Clarita Valley, featured a “No Duck Left Behind” creative essay and poster contest.

The contest drew student participants from all over the SCV, and the winners were announced at the Oct. 22 festival. Winners received trophies and all participants received a ribbon.

The annual Rubber Ducky Festival, also known as the Rubber Ducky Regatta, is the Samuel Dixon Famly Health Centers’ signature fundraising event providing patient care funding throughout the year. Proceeds go toward patient care at the clinics, which offer affordable, quality primary health care for residents of the Santa Clarita Valley. Samuel Dixon makes a special effort to serve the uninsured and underinsured.

Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers operate three health centers in the Santa Clarita Valley – Canyon Country Health Center, Val Verde Health Center and Newhall Health Center – as well as outreach sites at College of the Canyons and California Institute of the Arts. Samuel Dixon clinics offer a full range of health care services—physicals, immunizations and vaccines, screenings and diagnostic tests, well baby care, and family planning. Patients pay based on their income. This past year, the organization provided service for 11,000 patient visits.
