1877 - Newhall School District formed, upon petition of J.F. Powell and 47 others [story]
Newhall School kids

Fiscal Year 2015-2016 (July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016) was another strong year for location filming in Santa Clarita.  The Film Office recorded 528 film permits and 1,305 film days, which generated an estimated economic impact of $30.9 million to the local community.

Not included in these numbers are the film days and economic benefit from filming that takes place on certified sound stages and does not require a film permit.

Thanks to all of the locally based shows, productions, residents and businesses that helped make last year so successful!

The Santa Clarita Film Office is excited to have been a Silver Sponsor and exhibitor at the 8th Annual Film In California Conference (FICC) which was held May 21st at the CBS Radford lot in Studio City.  The FICC has grown to become the signature event for location managers, producers, directors, studio executives and more, looking to network and learn about the benefits our great state has to offer.

The conference featured the late Garry Marshall as keynote speaker, Mayor Garcetti, Dax Shepard, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ryan Murphy, and panel discussions on a variety of filmmaking topics in addition to a trade show featuring film offices, locations and resources from all over California.

Santa Clarita was well represented with Santa Clarita Studios, Blue Cloud Ranch and Disney’s Golden Oak Ranch sponsoring and participating in the event as well.  As part of the sponsorship, the Film Office was able to place a full page ad in The Hollywood Reporter.

The City’s Film Incentive Program (FIP) continues to support and reward production companies for filming on location and basing in Santa Clarita.

Aimed at retaining and increasing production, the FIP provides refunds of basic film permit fees to locally based, recurring, and California Film & Television Production Tax Credit Program approved productions, in addition to offering reduced costs for safety personnel.

Since the program’s inception in 2009, the FIP has refunded more than $380,000 to 90+ production companies and provided over $187,000 in savings on Sheriff fees.  To date, location filming from these incentivized productions has resulted in an estimated $76.5 million in economic impact to our community!

Numerous productions have already benefited from the City’s FIP.  Yours could be next!
