As with all stats, there is sway but I would say SCV is far from any most dangerous list. I have been to many shady places in California. SCV would rank much higher of towns I would be more comfortable if my kid/wife had to walk the streets at night
I grew up in Newhall. And when I grew up there it was a lot safer. People didn’t die in record-setting numbers. Teenagers weren’t homeless walking the streets on heroin. And the city was not blind to all the problems within its boundaries
Walk around Jake’s way after 10. You’re never going to do it because you’re scared and you know better. You live in the Land of Make Believe and wouldn’t surprise me if you walk the streets at night Behind the Walls of a gated community. Place looks really nice on the outside but when you start to look on the inside and you dig a Little Deeper you start to find things that you wish you didn’t find in the first place. But what do I know I only live there for 38 years. I was able to witness the transition from a wonderful community to the chaotic place you drive around in today. New people are just blind to it all because they don’t know any better. It just upsets me to see a place where the record-setting death figures consider itself the safest place anywhere on Earth. Anywhere around Jakes Way after 10 give it a shot. Avoid eye contact
And your stats above are incorrect. I just did ONE search and San Diego had 200-499 crimes where as Santa Clarita had 50-199 based on public data. In 2015….San Diego had 37 murders per 100K and SCV had 7 per 100K.

There used to be a sign right on the exit when you got off the freeway to go to Santa Clarita off the 5 freeway headed north but they took that sign down because they don’t want people to know how many people are packed into such a small area. Yep- population has jumped a lot, but I still do not fear for my life walking around town, even in the less desirable areas. I have not once been attacked in my 20+ years living here. I am not blind to the issues and crime here either I know it exists for sure. But I am also aware its worse in many many other places. Where do you live? Still in SCV? Have you lived elsewhere?

We can either be cynical of Santa Clarita or appreciate that it’s not as dangerous as other cities. I feel safe enough to walk around at night in this city by myself. Many people in LA county cant say that.
We can be appreciative while still being realistic that this community has changed significantly in recent years and may not be as “safe” as that poll suggests. C’mon….just read the news headlines.
Roger Langford you can also open your eyes as to what struggles are really out there. As cities grow, crime goes up. You can’t expect to live in LA County and not find all elements everywhere. It’s a part of growth. All we can do is remain vigilant and understand that as a community we protect our city, since it seems as if we’ve been spoiled for a very long time.
Roger Langford also, take a look at Pacoima just a few miles away… we don’t deal with and we are still in a position where we can keep our schools and streets safe.
…..and we can also expect that there should be more than one police station and one hospital for our growing community. Our emergency infrastructure in this valley cannot truly support the population as is….SO HOW CAN YOU CALL US SAFE, Nelson?

Roger Langford are you implying that our Sheriffs aren’t doing a good job? It’s impossible to stop all crime. How often are the shootings happening? Not all that often. With the opening of the shelter we’ve attracted the issues that come with homelessness… addiction, mental health and crime. As long as we continue to call 911 when issues occur, communicate with our neighborhood watch groups and take our own personal precaution things will remain balanced. We can’t just expect to be the only place in LA that shouldn’t experience crime. It’s going to happen.

I have MANY friends and family in law enforcement doing ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING they can to keep us safe….but our services are overwhelmed to the point of exhaustion by recent legislation and judicial decisions that forced more Sheriffs back into the jails and off of patrol. What I am saying is that we need to be willing to foot the bill for more infrastructure so they have a fighting chance.
