Saugus Union School District students competed in Math Field Day, sponsored by the L.A. County Office of Education, which is designed as an enrichment activity to promote mathematical reasoning, teamwork and a balanced mathematics curriculum for all students in upper elementary and middle school.
Participation allows students to demonstrate their math knowledge through competition in the following elements: computational and procedural skill, conceptual understanding and problem-solving.
SUSD has a history of performing very well at the County level, with 2 of our three grade-level teams finishing in the top 3 last year, and a total of 5 medals for SUSD teams.
At the heart of this success is outstanding instruction at the school level, as well as the technology to make teaching this discipline more rewarding for both student and teacher.
The 4th and 5th grade teams from Bridgeport and the 6th grade team from WestCreek, who will be going to the county event to represent the District, had an impressive showing, but also laud the category winners:
