Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies interrupted a smash-and-grab burglary on The Old Road early Friday morning, arresting one suspect and seeking two alleged accomplices still at large.
Here’s the story from the Station’s social media:
Two SCV Sheriff patrol deputies became aware of businesses that were burglarized in Newhall. They set out patrolling targeted areas of closed businesses to check on them and look for any possible suspects.
While checking on businesses on the 25900 block of The Old Road in Stevenson Ranch during their early morning shift last Friday, one of the deputies noticed an SUV with two male adult occupants parked in a handicapped space, backed up to one of the closed restaurants.
Then he spotted a third male adult coming out of the restaurant – THROUGH A SMASHED WINDOW – and returning to the SUV.
As soon as the two SUV occupants saw the deputies’ patrol car, they took off driving through the parking lot, leaving the third male suspect running after their vehicle trying to get back in, but he was unsuccessful.
Deputies caught up with the burglary suspect who fled on foot and apprehended him. He was identified as Deon Wooten, M/B age 18, of Long Beach. Deputies arrested Wooten for felony commercial burglary and possession of burglary tools.
The incident remains an active investigation as detectives are still working to identify the other two suspects.
If you own a business, here’s a crime prevention tip: Make sure you empty your cash register at night. You can even leave the drawer open with the empty tray visibly tipped up. Let would-be thieves know there’s nothing worth breaking in for.
And if you “See Something – Say Something.”

Wow, no loyalty amongst thieves. They just left him there. I hope they can identify the other two and plaster their sorry faces all over the media. Good job officers.
