[KHTS] – Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s officials announced that Capt. Roosevelt Johnson is the new station commander, succeeding Capt. Paul Becker, who retired last month after 30 years with the department.
Johnson’s appointment became effective Sunday, and he comes to the Santa Clarita Valley from the Sheriff’s Department’s Headquarters Bureau.
Johnson left Altadena for an assignment with the Headquarters Bureau since mid-2012, after serving as operations lieutenant in Altadena, according to Altadena Point.
He served as a division aide for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at Headquarters Bureau, according to Sheriff’s Station officials.
Since October, Lt. Robert Lewis had been filling in for Becker on an interim basis.
Becker, who had been at the SCV Station since early 2010, came to Santa Clarita from the Sheriff Department’s Cold Case Homicide Unit in downtown Los Angeles. He has worked with the city of Santa Clarita and various community leaders to institute a number of programs, including the J-Team, which focuses on juvenile intervention, as well as the DFYiT program, which has been a partnership with the William S. Hart Union High School District and the city of Santa Clarita.
During Becker’s 3-plus-year tenure, crime rates have remained the lowest compared to nearly all sheriff’s stations in the county.
