Samantha Ford, Saugus Union School District physical education teacher, has been selected to throw the ceremonial first pitch at the 40th Annual City of Santa Clarita Dodger Day taking place on Saturday, May 20, 2017.
Ford was selected for her inspiring efforts in organizing a successful shoe drive for her students; which she launched after noticing a few wearing rundown and incorrect-sized boots to gym class.
“We were looking for a guest of honor to throw the first pitch and Samantha immediately came to mind for her amazing charitable work,” says Patrick Downing, Arts & Events Supervisor for the City of Santa Clarita.
“I am completely honored to be throwing the first pitch, “says Ford. The shoe drive has gained national attention and to date has collected hundreds of shoes. “I think it is important for us to realize that there are people at home who need our help. We don’t have to travel across the world to make a difference. And I am so grateful to live in a great community that’s supportive of kids. It might be a big community but it still feels small and the people care,” she adds.
This year’s Santa Clarita Dodger Day will take place on Saturday, May 20 at 7:10 p.m. at Dodger Stadium. The L.A. Dodgers will take on the Miami Marlins. Ticket prices range from $29 Preferred Reserve seats to $85 Loge Box MVP seats. Attendees will receive a free Dodgers pullover, while supplies last. Each school and non-profit group that sells more than 10 tickets will receive a rebate. Attendees will be able to specify which charity or school they’d like to support during registration.
