College of the Canyons administrator Dr. Ryan Theule has accepted the position of Dean of the Canyon Country campus, effective immediately.

Theule will serve as the Canyon Country campus primary on-site leader, while providing oversight and management of all the campus’ day-to-day activities, operations and strategic planning.

“Ryan is an energetic and visionary leader who understands the needs of the community and will help to guide the continued growth and development of the campus,” said COC Chancellor Dr. Dianne Van Hook. “His passion, and innovative and entrepreneurial spirit, will lead to new partnerships and new opportunities that will benefit our students and the surrounding community.”

Theule began his College of the Canyons career in 2007 as a classified staff member working in the Admissions and Records office and quickly advanced to the position of assistant director of that department.

Theule later transitioned to the Canyon Country campus where he worked closely with Founding Dean Dr. Dena Maloney, in providing oversight of the campus’ student services operations, while also playing an instrumental role in the campus’ leadership structure and planning processes.

Following the departure of Dr. Maloney in April 2012, Theule assumed the position of Interim Dean of the Canyon Country campus.

During his tenure the campus has celebrated its Fifth Anniversary with a series of on-campus events including the bi-annual Star Party events, the recent SCV Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours Mixer and the communitywide ‘Open House’ celebration held last September.

“It is such a joy working with the talented team of staff and faculty at the Canyon Country campus and it has been my pleasure to play a part in growing the facility, celebrating our accomplishments and planning for the future,” said Theule.

“The fact that 77 percent of the 2013 graduating class have taken at least one class at Canyon Country demonstrates both the need for, and reach of, this campus as part of the college’s commitment to provide students with increased access to education,” added Theule. “The next five years promise to be even more exciting as we build on that momentum.”

A product of the Santa Clarita Valley, Theule graduated from Canyon High School in 1998 before attending Stanford, where he graduated with both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in History in 2002.

Passionate about higher education and the community he grew up in, upon graduating from Stanford Theule served as an administrator at Trinity Law School beginning in 2003, before returning to the SCV to work at College of the Canyons.

He is also a graduate of the college’s L.E.A.P. (Leadership Education in Action Program) professional development program.

In 2012 Theule earned his doctorate from USC and subsequently defended his doctoral dissertation in educational leadership.

Having recently started a family, Theule and his wife, Beth, live in Canyon Country, and are expecting a second child this summer.
