In what proved to be another exciting year for The Master’s College Athletic Department, the student-athletes of TMC produced some of the most memorable moments in school history.

The Master’s College Sports Information staff recently gathered together and assembled the quintessential list of the top 10 moments in Mustang Athletics for 2014. What follows is No. 5-7.

5.) A High-Five For Cross Country

On November 8, The Master’s College men’s cross country team competed head-to-head against conference competition, at the GSAC Championship which resulted in TMC claiming its fifth consecutive title.

With four Mustang harriers earning all-conference honors and laying the foundation to TMC’s conference-leading team time of 2:14:40.10, The Master’s victory tied it for the most amount of consecutive GSAC wins with former conference member, Point Loma University.

Along with that, Mustang men’s cross county head coach Zach Schroeder was named the GSAC’s Coach of the Year for the fifth year in a row.

6.) Frankian earns All-American honors after performances at both the NAIA Track & Field and Cross Country National Championship

On May 22, Karis Frankian highlighted The Master’s College women’s track team’s performance at the 34th annual Women’s Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama, by finishing fifth in the 10,000m final with a blazing time of 36 minutes and 38.32 seconds.

Notably, Frankian repeated her NAIA All-American honors in the event where in 2013 year she capped off a phenomenal freshman year, finishing fourth overall with a time of 36:26.04.  With this accomplishment, Frankain raised the bar for the Lady Mustangs’ track program by becoming the first-ever two-time NAIA Track All-American.

Exactly six months later, Frankian competed at the 35th Annual Women’s Cross Country National Championship at the historic Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kansas on November 22.

After placing ninth overall with a final time of 18:07.70, Frankian went on to earn NAIA cross county All-American honors for second time in her collegiate career.

Earlier in November, Frankian made history by placing first at the GSAC cross country championships – a feat never before accomplished by a Lady Mustang runner.

7.) Women’s Soccer Return to NAIA National Tournament

Fueled by the play of a trio of All-Americans (Katie Farris, Natasha Coyle, and Jordan Benson), the women’s soccer team earned a berth in the NAIA National Tournament for the second consecutive year and the third time in school history.  Led by eighth-year head coach Curtis Lewis, the Mustangs went 13-6-1 overall, finishing 7-2-1 and in third place in the GSAC.

Claiming a No. 18 preseason ranking, the club climbed to as high as No.7 before finishing the season at No. 13.  After getting knocked out in the first round of the GSAC Tournament, the Mustangs rebounded with an NAIA National Championship Opening Round victory over Trinity International of Illinois before falling to Northwestern Ohio in the second round of the national tournament.
