We all know that sometimes you have to take art to the streets. Art was literally done on the street when artists converged in Old Town Newhall to do chalk drawings on Main Street.
Diane Trautman joined in, not just to support art, but also to participate actively in the process. That’s the kind of thing leaders do, and Trautman has been a community leader and planner for decades.

Diane and her husband Allan met as students at CalArts in 1977. They moved back to Santa Clarita with their two sons in 1993. Since that time, Diane has worked on a wide range of issues of vital importance to the city including campaigning to preserve open space, the preservation of Elsmere Canyon, the defeat of the Las Lomas development in the Newhall Pass, and the ongoing effort to stop the Cemex mining project in the eastern portion of the Valley. Diane has also served as a leader at various levels of the PTA. In 2003, she and her husband founded a local business, StudyPros In-Home Tutoring.
Diane first served on the Planning Commission from 2002-2010 and is honored to once again bring her knowledge, skills, and perspective to the important task of guiding city development. Diane served as the liaison from the Planning Commission to the City’s Arts Advisory Committee, and her work with that committee was instrumental in the creation of the current Arts Commission.

My students and I miss participating in the street painting festival.
Diane Trautman is a leader in the community who can go beyond the partisanship that seems to hamper much of Santa Clarita’s need for FORWARD THINKING . . . She is able to see the big picture. She speaks softly, and makes deliberate time to read, to ask questions, and to listen. We like the fact that she is able to hear the voices of all involved in an issue. Hopefully the city will see the need to have her in the position of a judge. She can identify basic emotions entwined in ambition, envy, vindictiveness, greed. She knows the desire for power and security is what is deteriorating our valley and seeks to eradicate it to become the AWESOME TOWN we all seek by moving here.
